Through its mission, the Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum is committed to:

Promoting the local, regional, national, and international origins of the Saxon Lutheran heritage;

Preserving the museum collections and other related sites through the standard museum practices of conservation, documentation, cataloging, publication, and storage;

Interpreting the history of the Saxon Lutheran colonization, the Missouri Synod, the first Evangelical Lutheran seminary west of the Mississippi River, and the rich German-American cultural heritage that has been a significant part of the region since 1839;

Educating the public through permanent and rotating exhibits, presentations, cultural festivals, and archival research.

The Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum functions under the authority of the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society, Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the settlement history of the Saxon Lutheran colonists in the United States.  The Society has been in operations since 1910.  The Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum will serve a global audience through education, exhibition, and interpretation of this authentic colonial landscape.
